HLF Mourns Passing of Robert Conroy; His Lawsuit Will Proceed
It is with great sadness that the Hanamirian Law Firm announces the passing of noted healthcare lawyer and client Robert Conroy. In accordance with his wishes, a lawsuit against his former law firm, Kern Augustine Conroy & Schoppmann, will proceed on the estate’s behalf. Conroy passed away on July 25th at the age of 62 after a 15-month bout with nonalcoholic liver cirrhosis, six weeks after filing the civil suit.
“He wanted me to pursue it,” said his attorney, John Hanamirian, in a follow-up article by David Gialanella in the New Jersey Law Journal on July 29th. The article details the June 12th complaint filed in Somerset County Superior Court. The complaint asserts breach of contract, fraud, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, breach of fiduciary duty and minority shareholder oppression. It seeks declaratory relief, compensatory damages and punitive damages.
A July 21 hearing on the arbitrability of the dispute, which Conroy planned to attend, was moved to July 28 because he was scheduled to undergo an evaluation for a liver transplant on the former date, according to court documents. Unfortunately, Conroy passed away before having the opportunity.
